I decided to prep a couple with plastikote cupboard door spray paint to see if it helped avoid drips and missing bits. The chairs were are bit of a nightmare, they fold up so unless you separate them, I wasn't willing to do this, for fear of them not going back together (they are 10 years old!) My partner had already lightly buffed the table to get rid of residue varnish so the paint went on like a dream. It goes on a lighter shade of grey (still dark though) and as it dries it turns this lovely slate colour. This is not a thick paint, but it's not as thin as fence paint, so at most you will need a couple of coats to get a nice finish. We have a table and 4 chairs that are about 10 years old and in real need of a spruce up.
